HWY 88 – Carson Pass

One of the more mellow of the nice routes over the Sierras. HWY 88 is a great road for cruising or sprinting up. The pavement is in good shape as this road is traveled – thus maintained – nearly year round. You will find more traffic on this pass than others, but that is relative. It is still far less traveled than HWY 50 – one of the busier routes. You will pass the casino in Jackson – which has a great lunch buffet – and other small towns. You will also pass several lakes as you head over the 8,574 ft summit. The month of October is a great time to go up 88 as the leaves are changing colors and the scenery is stunning.
